Forsyth Reservoir, temperature today at 2pm was 56 deg and there was strong wind, the ice as you can see had plenty of slush and standing water on it, there was water running off of every hill down on to the ice,
i did not venture out on the ice as it looked pretty rotten, there were fish feeding at the springs area where there is a little open water.

Mill Meadow, Ice Fishing is done, there was good ice last week, this week with warm temperatures and wind the ice is cracking and breaking up, this crack is right at the boat ramp. we have been fishing the inlets with black and brown buggers and have been doing really really well.

plenty of open water at the inlets on Millmeadow.

Upper Fremont.   with this warm temperature the fishing has been great, we continue to catch lots of browns
with a variety of midge patterns.

Thousand Lake Mtn
Tried the road over from forsyth today to see how far i could make it. even with the warm weather there is alot of snow on the road, i made it to the gate before backing down, access is possible from the desert side.

Southern Utah Fly Fishing Report

The Upper Fremont.
Conditions remain good, with the warmer weather the Stream has remained ice free, look for overcast days to provide the best midge hatches, we have done well using both drys and nymphs.
are favorites this week have been, Tennessee Renegade in sz 16, Griffith gnat sz 18 midge emerger Black sz 18. we also use black hares ear, sz. 16, prince nymph sz 14, and the universal chironomid sz 16. from Flyfishfood.com.

 Mill Meadow Reservoir.
The warm weather has really softened the edges of the reservoir, i was still able to get on the ice at the boat ramp and drilled 3 holes at 10 20 and 50 feet out, ice was anywhere from 10 to 14 inches. day time temperatures have been as warm as 55 deg up there, use caution if venturing out.
i have been fishing the inlets with black buggers and have been catching a few.

Southern Utah Ice and Fly Fishing Report

The last couple of days have been pretty warm with temperatures close to 50 deg.
That warmth accompanied by the storm today brought the midges out in force, the  inlets to both millmeadow and Forsyth had good numbers of rising fish, I stopped and fished both today, millmeadow was definently the better of the two for me, I'm sure I would have done better at Forsyth if I'd put my waders on so that I could have castes better and reached the edge of the ice where the fish  seemed more concentrated.  Millmeadow was kind though and the fish where quick to grab a black bugger.

Forsyth at 1 pm was 41 deg, the ice was 12 inches most places,
Closer to the springs it was 8 inches, ice fisherman reported slow fishing
This week.
Millmeadow  at 2pm was 45 deg, fishing was fair for the guys I talked too,
They had a couple 14 inch browns, they said the take was very light and hard to set on.
Ice was 10 inches.

Mill Meadow And Forsyth Utah Ice Fishing Report. Fremont River Fly Fishing

Checked the ice conditions Tuesday Jan 7.

                                                                       FORSYTH
The reservoir is Full and Spilling, there was one group of fisherman out on the Ice, at 1:30, the temperature was 48 deg, the group had limited out on tiger trout and one splake, from 8 inches to 18 inches, ice was slushy near the shore line,  ice thickness was 7 to 9 inches.

                                                           MILLMEADOW
there was 3 different groups on the ice Tuesday at 2 :30 temperature was 50 deg, ice was 5 to 8 inches, use caution as the reservoir is filling and the edges can be soft.
the anglers who had moved away from the regular spots seemed to be having far more luck,
the catch was Browns in the 12 to 18 inch range and rainbows 12 to 16 inches.

                                                            FREMONT RIVER
the Fremont provides my only reprieve from winters icy grip... fishing was incredible given the time of year, I cant complain when temperatures get in to the 50s in January, The browns were taking midges in nearly every hole, and fishing was good, we do fish a few midge patterns but the fish seemed more willing to take bigger bead heads like Pheasant tail Nymphs and hares ears in a sz 14. if you are like me and standing on a frozen lake is crazy, The river is the perfect place to scratch that fly fishing itch.
