Checked the ice conditions Tuesday Jan 7.
FORSYTH
The reservoir is Full and Spilling, there was one group of fisherman out on the Ice, at 1:30, the temperature was 48 deg, the group had limited out on tiger trout and one splake, from 8 inches to 18 inches, ice was slushy near the shore line, ice thickness was 7 to 9 inches.
MILLMEADOW
there was 3 different groups on the ice Tuesday at 2 :30 temperature was 50 deg, ice was 5 to 8 inches, use caution as the reservoir is filling and the edges can be soft.
the anglers who had moved away from the regular spots seemed to be having far more luck,
the catch was Browns in the 12 to 18 inch range and rainbows 12 to 16 inches.
FREMONT RIVER
the Fremont provides my only reprieve from winters icy grip... fishing was incredible given the time of year, I cant complain when temperatures get in to the 50s in January, The browns were taking midges in nearly every hole, and fishing was good, we do fish a few midge patterns but the fish seemed more willing to take bigger bead heads like Pheasant tail Nymphs and hares ears in a sz 14. if you are like me and standing on a frozen lake is crazy, The river is the perfect place to scratch that fly fishing itch.
