Southern Utah Fly Fishing Report

The Upper Fremont.
Flows are from both mamoit springs and from Johnson valley reservoir,
the road is clear on the mill meadow reservoir side to the first rest room area, past that there is snow on the road off and on we suggest using caution.
the fishing has been amazing, fish are holding on the tail outs of the pools and have actively been feeding on prince nymphs and hares ear nymphs.
Bicknell Bottoms.
good access. there is very light pressure here and the fishing has slowed the last week or so. the few fish that we have caught have been on midge nymphs fished deep and slow.
Fishlake. access is good to the lake from highway 24. ice seems to be holding at 18 inches or so.
there have been a few nice lake trout being taken in 100 feet of water.
thousandlakes mtn..
fishing has been good for those who have made there way up to neffs. the Solomon basin area has been barely touched this winter.
Boulder Mtn. some nice fish were caught jigging through the ice on blindlake, also on oakcreek.
access is by snowmobile and hiking .

Fremont River Utah Fishing Report

The Upper Fremont.
with the weather warming a little the Fremont has dislodged most the anchor ice and is flowing
well. we expect increased flows any day as Johnson valley reservoir should be full and spill, this will increase the flow, we have done well with Hares ear sz 14 and 12 underneath, and midge patterns on the surface on warmer days.

The Lower Fremont.
The Duck Hunt is over making the Bicknell Bottoms a good place to try for winter fly fishing,
warmer water temperatures here keep the river open, we have used midge pattens and done well.
a San Juan worm fished deep is always a good choice at this time of year as well.

Fish lake.
There is close to 18 inches of Ice on both the north and south ends, fishing has been reported to be good with
green jigs tipped with perch meat for rainbows and splake the last couple of days.

Millmeadow reservoir was treated to reduce the dense sucker population this winter.
the reservoir was drained for repairs on the release gates and is currently filling now.
trout will be restocked this spring.

Forsyth Reservoir.

was also treated last fall to remove illegally introduced perch,  trout will be restocked this spring.
the reservoir is about 4 feet from from being full and should be by mid to late February.

Fishing Report SOUTHERN UTAH

FishLake.
The lake has about 8 inches of ice on the north and south sides, with some spots that are still very thin near the middle, there is still some open water at twin creeks. spoke to one guy that was fishing and his group had caught some Mack's in the 26 to 31 inch range.

Fremont River.
The upper has anchor ice up to about the second restroom area.
we fished with hares ears and Zug Bugs and did well.
The lower fremont, they have finally finished repairs on the dam at mill meadow and shut the reservoir off. this has made for clearer water conditions on the lower, we have done well with midge patterns and streamers fish low and slow.

FISHLAKE ICE CONDITION

The lake has a sheet of ice on it that looks like it will hold, there were fisherman on both the south and north ends, there was even a couple guys right behind the lodge, ( that spot looked a little sketchy to me though )  Did not talk to anyone today so we are not sure how well they are doing.
here are today's photos. as of Dec 31 2012

FISH LAKE AND AREA ICE CONDITIONS

As of the 21st the FishLake continues to get a thin ice sheet one day then it blows off the next, the lake was nearly 90% open water. it looks like it may be mid January before it has safe ice.
Forsyth and millmeadow both were treated and will not be restocked till next spring, Koosharem Res has ice and some have ventured out a little way, it appears that it will need a couple more cold nights before it is safe ice, Ottercreek Res, has good ice and there have been people out on the ice fishing.

The Fremont is at normal water flows and the fishing has been fair with midge patterns and neon nightmares fished deep and slow.  access to the upper Fremont is limited due to winter snow, use caution when attempting to navigate the road as there is no winter maintenance on highway 25.
